Higher Budget
These churches usually have full-time pastoral staff from the start. They place a high value on leadership qualities that they believe will lead to broader impact and longevity of ministry.
Funding: VMC is prepared to help fund these higher budget church plants as described in each of definitions below.
Types of Churches
Large Church Planting Initiative
- This kind of plant usually starts with a 100 people or more and aspires to be a 500+ church. It is usually planted by a large congregation or by a large, spontaneously gathered group. They usually have full-time pastoral staff from the beginning.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year for each of the first three years
- Funding for the planter may come from the planting church, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant.
- The VMC grant may not be more than one third of the total salary in year one and negotiated declining amounts in years two and three will be established.
Regional church plant
- Churches with compatible vision and values pool resources to launch a new church. They supervise in the early stages of the church’s life.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year each of the first three years
- Funding for the planter may come from the planting churches, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant. The VMC grant may not be more than one third of the total salary in year one and negotiated declining amounts in years two and three will be established.
Daughter church plant
- A congregation intentionally begins a new, cooperating, but independent church.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year for each of the first three years.
- Funding for the planter may come from the planting church, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant. The VMC grant may not be more than one third of the total salary in year one and negotiated declining amounts in years two and three will be established.
Sub-congregation plant
- A congregation initiates a new congregation, on or off site and retains substantial links and supervision.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to a total amount of $2,500.
- Funding for the planter may come from the planting church, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant. The one-time VMC grant may not be more than one third of the total salary in year one.
Core group plant
- A core group of people launches a new church which with a financially supported planter.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year for each of the first three years
- Funding for the planter may come from the congregation, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant. The VMC grant may not be more than one half of the total salary in year one and negotiated declining amounts in years two and three will be established.
Church-split plant
- A group leaves a church over some disagreement and develops a unified vision and strategy for a new church.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year for each of the first three years.
- Funding for the planter may come from the congregation, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant. The VMC grant may not be more than one half of the total salary in year one and negotiated declining amounts in years two and three will be established.
Re-plant a Dying Church
- A dying church allows itself to be taken over and replanted. Great care must be taken to ensure that this is truly a new beginning and that the old culture and leadership has ended on all fronts.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year for each of the first three years
- Funding for the planter may come from the congregation, personal fund-raising or from a VMC grant. The VMC grant may not be more than one half of the total salary in year one and negotiated declining amounts in years two and three will be established.
Adopt a Fledgling Church Plant
- VMC can “adopt” and support a church plant that has already started.
- Funding for assessment, training and coaching up to $2,500 per year in each of the first three years
